Will Smith just walked up on stage at the Oscars and appeared to punch presenter Chris Rock, during what might be the most shocking moment in awards history.

During the ceremony at the 94th Academy Awards, the comedian appeared on the stage to present an award for Best Documentary.

During his presenting speech Rock made a joke about Will Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith - who currently has a shaven head - noting: 'Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see you.'

In reaction to the joke, Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes before Smith walked up onto the stage and seemingly punched Rock, much to everyone's surprise and confusion. He then walked back to his seat.

'Will Smith just smacked the sh*t out of me,' said Rock, seemingly confused by the outburst. Smith then repeatedly shouted: 'Keep my wife’s name out your f*cking mouth.

'Wow... dude. It was a G.I. Jane joke,' replied Rock.

    In my own opinion I believe Will Smith did the right thing by defending his wife. That joke was way out of line as Jada didn't lose her hair willingly she is Sick for God's sake.
